Portuguese wines never cease to amaze me. They are such givers in terns of quality, flavour and value for money.
There are two key regions for producing red wines from Portugal that we typically find in Ireland. Those from the Douro which produce really ripe wines and those from Dao which is a little colder and the wines tend to be grippier, drier and more savoury in flavour.
This is an excellent example of the Dao style, and a perfect wine to have with a BBQ. Full of fresh red and black berry fruit and hints of dried herbs and pepper. It is made without any oak.
