Party Wines
Some of us have immediate family around the table on the 25th December whilst others have a full house so below are ideas for party wines to please the Anything But Chardonnay Crowd and the Anything But Sauvignon Crowd!
Les Vignobles Montagnac, Picpoul de Pinet FRANCE 2020 €15.50
Picpoul is an indigenous grape from the Languedoc region in the South of France. This is a generous and open expression with fleshy fruit, juicy pears and ripe pineapples. Refreshing acidity and a weighty mouthfeel.
Cantina Frentana, Montepulciano d’Abruzzo ITALY €15.50
A recognisable name from restaurant wine lists, and if you haven’t tried one before, there is no better place to start. Full bodied, chewy, grippy with a generous nose of ripe, fresh dark fruit. Liquorice notes and juicy, fresh acidity. A must try for any Malbec Lover.
Christmas Day Wines
Fizzy Options
Nothing says holiday time like sparkling wine for breakfast! One of our favourite things is popping a cork mid morning and enjoying a glass of fizz with your bacon sandwich or fried eggs on toast. It’s a fun way to start the day or even a hair of the dog if you had one too many with the neighbours on Christmas Eve.
La Jara Organic Sparkling Prosecco ITALY €16 per bottle
As Featured on The Late Late Show: This award winning Frizzante Prosecco is dry, fresh and crisp. Its an excellent example of how good prosecco can be! Fruity, floral and and light. Produced from Organically grown fruit and only 11% in alcohol, its the perfect start to any party. Even if its a party for 1!
Voria Bianco Pet nat, Porta del Vento ITALY €19.95
We really love Pet Nat wines, they are so much fun and they represent everything we love at Nude Wines. They are non filtered, vegan friendly and as natural as you can get. This is a light and lively Pet Nat, with gorgeous creamy and fizzy bubbles, juicy ripe tropical fruit of pineapple and citrus.
Traditional or Trailblazer?
There are two main approaches to take for Christmas Day, the traditional route which typically involves French wines from the aspirational end of the wine list, and there is the road less travelled where you can opt for some of the new trends or trail blazing winemakers.
Whites
Coto De Gomariz, Flower and the Bee White 2020 SPAIN €19.90
Soft texture with fleshy mouthfeel lead to wine with floral hints, orchard fruit like pears and apricots and herbal tea notes. Yum! Coto De Gomariz , who is the winery behind The Flower and the Bee, farm organically although they are not certified, and many biodynamic practices are also implemented here.
Domaine Roger Champault, Sancerre Les Pierris 2020 €26.50
A subtle nose openss up to lush flavours of white orchard fruits with a soft creamy texture and refreshing acidity. Fermented in thermoregulated stainless steel vats and finished on its lees results in a Sancerre rich and refined Sancerre.
Red Options
Chateau Puynormond, Montagne-St Emilion, Vielles Vignes 2018 €24.50
It’s a dark and rich Bordeaux brimming with blueberries and blackberries, not necessarily a typical bottle from St Emilion but its really outstanding. In terms of value for money, flavour and presentation, this gets 10/10 from us. This would definitely benefit from opening up at lunch time to drink in the evening, or pop it into the decanter.
Wines For a Lazy Stephens Day
Chill out, enjoy afternoon films, polish off a selection box and don’t forget a nice glass for yourself!
La Jara Organic Sparkling Prosecco Rose €16 per bottle
Made in the traditional Prosecco fashion, but with a small percentage of red grapes, this sparkling pink wine is dry and tastes like peaches, apricots and strawberries. Its absolutely excellent! At 10% alcohol, it goes down very nicely indeed.
Borgo dei Trulli Organic Salice Salentino, Italy €14.99
This is a wine for anyone who loves dark, rich flavours and a big full body. These opulent and rich flavours are complemented by chocolate and coffee notes coming from the short time spend it oak. If you are a fan of Malbec or Shiraz, this wine will knock your socks off!
