[message]The vines here are relatively young, having been planted at the turn of the century. The vineyard is nicely exposed, facing south-west, yet it retains a coolness that is reflected in the character of the wine. The soil is 'white and light', adding energy and focus and Vincent is happy to use around 25% new oak and maintain a fair amount of batonage, as the natural tension of the wine, even in a warm year like 2020, allows for a certain richness of fruit, without the wine being overwhelmed. This is a really lovely example of this underrated appellation, full of both character precision. Stylistically it is not far removed from its reputed near neighbour Corton-Charlemagne.
