3x Ciabot Barolo La Morra 2020
A brilliant value Barolo, complex and elegant, with aromas of violets, roses, cherry liqueur, and sweet spice. On the palate, it offers ripe plum, strawberry, and cherry flavors, complemented by sweet tannins, brilliant freshness, and a long mineral finish, reflecting the exceptional craftsmanship of the Oberto family.
The vineyards, located in La Morra's prestigious crus—Roggeri, Bricco San Biagio, Rive, Cappallotti, Pria, and Rocchettevino—are on slopes facing Alba. The soils, mainly Marne di Sant’Agata from the Tortoniano group, are rich in bluish-grey marls. Traditional winemaking involves maceration of the must on the skins for 16-18 days at 30°C in fiberglass-lined concrete vats, followed by 24-30 months aging in Slavonian oak casks and 6 months in steel vats before bottling.
3x St Veran, Domaine Alexis Pollier 2021, Burgundy
A beautiful medium bodied Chardonnay, one of the nicest we have tried in this price category in a long time. The texture is creamy and mouthcoating with lingering and intense flavours of lemon, Granny Smith apple and grapefruit. It's a wine you will return to again and again. . A rising star in a very traditional region, Alexis started making his own wines aged just 21 years old and immediately caught the attention of Decanter and other leading wine publications. Alexis works biodynamically and his wines are made in a vibrant, non-oaky style with that classic grapey Maconnais purity. A fifth generation of the winemaking family, he is making his own wines from small parcels of land he received from his father.
