The Retirement XV – A Wine Tribute to Three Irish Legends
They’ve put in the hard tackles, the big scrums, and the match-winning kicks. Now, it’s time for Peter O’Mahony, Cian Healy, and Conor Murray to swap the post-match recovery shakes for something a little more refined. This wine selection celebrates their playing styles with French wines as bold, structured, and iconic as they are. These wines, like these players, only get better with time.

A fitting way to toast their legendary careers—with a bottle as strong, sophisticated, and full of character as they are.

Peter O’Mahony – Bordeaux
Powerful, Structured, Commanding
O’Mahony plays rugby like a top-tier Bordeaux—intense, uncompromising, and built to stand the test of time. He’s the backbone of any team, leading from the front with grit and sheer determination. A Left Bank Bordeaux, is his perfect match—big, structured, and unapologetically strong-willed, much like the man himself.

Cian Healy – Châteauneuf-du-Pape
Big, Intense, Full of Heart
This Rhône red—packed with Grenache, Syrah, and Mourvèdre—are big, bold, and full of fire, yet they carry an elegance beneath the muscle.  Châteauneuf-du-Pape mirror's Healy’s game: robust, layered, and capable of delivering a punch with finesse. The kind of wine that takes control of the scrum and storms over the try line with flair.

Conor Murray – Burgundy
Precision, Control, Elegance
A world-class scrum-half needs ice-cold composure, precision, and the ability to dictate the game—just like a top Burgundy. A Pinot Noir is the ultimate match: graceful, structured, and deceptively powerful, much like Murray’s measured box kicks and pinpoint passing.

A Quick Disclaimer Before the IRFU Comes Knocking
This fine selection of powerhouse French wines is brought to you exclusively by The Nude Wine Co. This has absolutely nothing to do with the IRFU. Just a celebration of three legends, three cracking wines, and a great excuse for a good glass of red.

Les Tours de Charmail Bordeaux

Les Tours de Charmail Bordeaux
Chateau Charmail is a hidden gem of the Haut-Médoc, known for crafting wines of exceptional depth and elegance. Nestled along the Garonne River, its vineyards benefit from gravelly soils and the classic Bordeaux maritime climate, allowing the grapes to develop both power and finesse. The estate is known for its generous use of Petit Verdot, adding an extra punch of spice and structure to the blend. This second wine, Les Tours de Charmail, is a seriously impressive bottle—a perfect introduction to the richness and refinement of Haut-Médoc wines without the classified growth price tag. This is classic Left Bank Bordeaux with a bold, opulent twist. A rich blend of Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, and Petit Verdot, it delivers layer upon layer of ripe blackberries, cassis, and dark cherries, all wrapped up in silky tannins and a whisper of oak spice. There’s a lovely balance between juicy fruit and structured depth, with hints of tobacco, cocoa, and a touch of graphite adding complexity. The finish is long, smooth, and just a little bit seductive, making it the perfect fireside pour or steak night companion.
